What is Kaggle and how is it useful to an Analytics Aspirant?
Often candidates from other domains interviewing for analytics roles find it difficult to convince the interviews that are really passionate about data science. While they may have trained themselves on the tools and techniques, they find it difficult to establish that they have hands-on comfort. An ideal solution to this problem is participating in and solving the Kaggle competitions.
Kaggle is the world’s largest community of data scientists. It is a platform for predictive modelling and analytics competitions on which companies and researchers post their data and statisticians and data miners from all over the world compete to produce the best models.
While seasoned data scientist could compete for winning the competitions, candidates aspiring to enter the domain could start with simpler problems, practise and gain confidence. Kaggle cases are good conversation starters in an Analytics interview.
What do we plan to do in the workshop?
In this workshop we intend to solve a live competition case from Kaggle with the class. This would be an interactive session wherein the instructor would guide the participants step by step in cracking the case. This session should get you started on solving simple Kaggle cases independently.
Who should attend?
- Anyone who is keen to learn analytics or has already stepped into analytics and wishes to upscale his/her knowledge and skills is welcome to join us.
- If you are eagerly waiting for an opportunity to compete with the best data analysts, data scientists and check your level of expertise, this can be an ideal platform for you.
- If you are keen to solve Kaggle competitions but have are struggling due to lack of guidance and mentorship, you should attend this.
Pre-requisites for attending the workshop
- Prior knowledge of Excel would be necessary. Knowledge of Statistics, SAS/R would not be compulsory. We would be taking up a case that could be solved by Excel and logic!
- You need to carry your laptop to be able to participate in solution building
