It draws inspiration from Q-learning, a reinforcement learning technique. The ultimate goal of Project Q, it is said, is to create an AI system that possesses general cognitive abilities akin to those of a human, encompassing language understanding, skill acquisition, common sense reasoning, and planning.
Another core focus of the project is ensuring AI safety, aiming to prevent unintended harmful behaviours as AI systems become more sophisticated. OpenAI’s research in this area encompasses reward modelling, intent alignment, ethical considerations, and safe exploration mechanisms. By prioritising AI safety, OpenAI aims to build AGI that remains under human control and is beneficial to society.
The idea apparently takes inspiration from neuroscience and human cognitive development, intending to create AI systems that learn about the world in a manner similar to humans. This approach involves starting with simple concepts and gradually building upon them, mirroring the way humans acquire knowledge and skills.
