Six Challengers to ChatGPT

Six Challengers to ChatGPT

Here’s an overview of some of the most intriguing ChatGPT rivals that are currently in focus

By now, we are all aware of how ChatGPT is taking the world by storm. Within its short lifespan of just half-a-year, it is already making significant waves across industries and is posed to bring about a paradigm shift by transforming the ways-of-working in every profession.

Essentially a machine-learning solution, ChatGPT keeps getting more refined all the while as more and more people use it across the world. It is a conversational software-as-a-service AI chatbot that understands the intent of complex, specific questions and can come up with relevant human-quality responses based on information available online in the public domain. The acronym ChatGPT stands for “Chat-based Generative Pre-trained Transformer”. It uses OpenAI’s large language models (LLMs) – language processing techniques that enable computers to understand and generate text– that are trained to pick up context and meaning by sifting through billions of pages of material available in the public domain.

But OpenAI is not the only company out in search of the Holy Grail! Over the last few months, several competitors to ChatGPT have been released – some functional, some still at an early development stage – but most are capable enough to make its mark in the domain of generative artificial intelligence (GAI).

Here’s an overview of some of the most intriguing ChatGPT rivals that are currently in focus:

Bing AI Chatbot

While OpenAI, the ChatGPT creators, receives Microsoft funding, this alliance has been leveraged by Microsoft to launch the Bing AI Chat in February 2023 – a new feature integrated in their proprietary Bing search engine. It enables any Bing user to converse withthe AI chatbot rather than simply filling out search queries. It is powered by the same language model framework from OpenAI and therefore operates in much the same way – although Bing AI is intended to bring greater precision, efficiency, and faster speeds.

Compared to ChatGPT, Bing AI Chatbot is mucheasier to access and use. Using Bing Chat is pretty straightforward –one only needs to have Microsoft’s own Edge browser installed in the system. Initially it was launched as a beta version that was only available to a select group of users. From May 2023, it has been thrown open to all users as long as the user has a valid Microsoft account.

Google Bard

Bardis Google’s answer to OpenAI and Microsoft.Google Bard is an AI-powered chatbot tool designed to simulate human conversations using natural language processing and machine learning. It is driven by Google’s Language Model for Dialog Applications (LaMDA), which has been pre-trained with over 1.56 trillion words and can present with over 137 billion parameters. It comes with the best Natural Language Processing(NLP) features which is built on the Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM 2).It is built to receive natural language input and provide content-aware, natural, and coherent responses. Additionally, it offers distinctive responses to follow-up inquiries.

In addition to supplementing Google search, Bard can be integrated into websites, messaging platforms or applications to provide realistic, natural language responses to user questions.Bard is available in over 180 countries. The only requirement is that the users must be at least 18 years old and have a personal Google account. As of now, Bard is free of charge and is expected to be integrated into Google’s basic search engine.

Amazon CodeWhisperer

This one is a domain-specific AI assistant tool to provide developers with an alternative method of locating, analysing, and troubleshooting coding problems. Amazon CodeWhispererisanAI coding companion that generates whole line and full function code suggestions. It is a general purpose, machine learning-powered code generator that offers code recommendations in real time. The generated code is similar to how the user would write code, matching the style and naming conventions. The tool uses sophisticated machine learning algorithms and natural language processingto evaluate code, find trends and flaws, and provide a thorough analysis of code behaviour.

Trained on billions of lines of Amazon and publicly available code, Amazon CodeWhisperer understands comments written in natural English language and can generate multiple code suggestions in real time to improve developer productivity. As the code is being written, CodeWhisperer automatically generates suggestions based on the existing code and comments. Such personalized recommendations can vary in size and scope, ranging from a single line comment to fully formed functions. The tool can also scan the code to highlight and define security issues.AmazonCodeWhisperer integrates with GitHub and other programming tools. As of now, developers can use it free of cost.

Chinchilla

Chinchilla is a family of large language models developed by the research team at DeepMind. it is a further development over a previous model family named “Gopher”. Both model families were trained to investigate the scaling laws of large language models. Chinchillais built on a transformer concept similar to GPT-3 and BERT. It provides various capabilities and benefits over ChatGPT andclaims to outperform ChatGPT on the math MMLU data set.

The Chinchilla AI model uses the same compute budget as Gopher but also 70 billion parameters with four times more data. This makes it an excellent choice for creators who want to develop more complex AI art, writing activities, and search engines. However, Chinchilla is still in the development and testing phase. Users interested to try it out must directly contact DeepMind for relevant access.

ChatSonic

ChatSonic is an AI-powered chatbot platform from Writesonicused for text and image creation.Built on the GPT-3.5 architecture, ChatSonic has integration with Stable Diffusion and DALL-E for image generation and a powerful connection with Google search that enableshyper-relevant content. It is a sophisticated machine learning model based on neural networks combined with scripted dialogue in order to simulate human speech. ChatSonic never forgets user conversations and can generate any kind of content based on input requirement. It has unique features like persona mode, which can switch into at least 16 different personas and let users customize their chat experience.

ChatSonic finds various usage scenarios like automating all customer interactions, creating search engine optimisation (SEO) content, writing code, providing responses with authentic and factual content, translating services, and other similar uses.

Claude 2

Claude 2 is a large language model with enhanced abilities capable of analysing hundreds of pages of text or hours of audio. Itis the latest version of Claude AI – a chatbot launched in 2022by the AI safety start-up Anthropic. Claude 2 has expanded its ability to analyse text from 9,000 tokens to 100,000 tokens – translating to about 75,000 words or six hours of transcribed audio – ineach prompt. That means it can do a technical analyses of quite long documents such as financial statements or research papers. The biggest advantage of the Claude 2chatbot is its ability to summarise nearly any document. Users can even upload multiple documents to analyse and compare.

Anthropic has raised $450 millionover the last four months. Its investors include Google, Salesforce and Zoom.Currently, a beta versionof Claude 2has been released only for users in the US. and the UK. It is expected to be globally available in the coming months. The pricing model is yet to be disclosed. Right now, it is meant for integration into customer applications and services. However, Anthropic is offering a limited free trial for interested parties to test out its capabilities.
